Tips for a Successful Day

  1. Practice the events with your child (even if only in your backyard). Help them understand the event and what is expected.
  2. Talk with your child about doing their best and trying new things.
  3. Inform your child they will stay with their "group" during the events. Group Leaders will "shepherd" the kids from event to event. If you are not volunteering, you are welcome to go with the group as well!
  4. Bring and APPLY sunscreen the day of the event! Sunburns are NOT fun!
  5. Bring water bottles for each child and yourself! The day can get long, and you should stay hydrated.
  6. Small snacks are better than a large meal the day of the event.
  7. Have your child stretch and warm up the day of the event.
  8. Talk with your child about placement, if appropriate. If they are highly competitive, it is good to understand that even if they win their heat (one race), they may not win the whole race. A race is made up of several heats and the best time wins, so it is important they run as hard as they can during their heat.
  9. Encourage and praise your child!
  10. Remember this is a FUN day!
